Are there still Living Enlightened Masters at Arunachala?
It was a couple of years back on my trip to Tiruvannamalai that I was wondering if there are still living enlightened masters at Arunachala today. I was told to look for Sri Siva Sakthi Ammaiyar. One morning I went to her ashram for darshan. The ashram on the ground level is a big hall with a simple chair for Ammaiyar with the only paraphernalia of an animal print kerchief indicating that she is a Siva devotee. The hall has lots of floor space for devotees. I noticed a lot of yoga blocks, mats, etc. All kinds of support for Westerners to Continue Reading »

inner path mapInner Path Pradakshina

The Inner Path takes us around Arunachala on a path away from the main road and only to be walked during daylight as it is out in nature away from street lights. This is a real beauty to be explored by yourself, with a friend, or with a mountain guide. There are many opportunities to just sit and meditate or enjoy the vista. Continue Reading »

outer pathOuter Path Pradakshina

Every full moon day thousands of pilgrims walk around (pradakshina or girivalam) the holy hill of Arunachala using the outer path which is well documented and easy to follow. That path uses the road used by auto rikshaws, busses, and other vehicles. Yet all traffic stands still during pradakshina. The road belongs to the pilgrims who traditionally walk the 14km barefoot, a 3+ hour walk. Along the road are countless stalls that offer refreshments from water to western soft drinks to fresh coconut water, and traditional tamilian snacks. Devotees line up in front of temples to get a glimpse Continue Reading »

Ananda or Bliss

nithyanandaParamahamsa Nithyananda, a young enlightened master from India, says,

Each of us is searching for nothing but Ananda or Bliss.

How much ever intellectual, how much ever sophisticated may be the terms in which we express it, we are all seeking ananda. Meditation is nothing but a preparation to rediscover the state of ananda that is already within you.”
