Catch a Glimpse of Arati

Glimpse of Arati
Arati is an offering of lit camphor that burns itself completely out offering itself to the divine energy or Existence represented by a deity, the Guru, or a holy mountain like Arunachala. It symbolically means that if we take refuge at the feet of the Lord and surrender our ego, our unmanifested desires will get burnt out. The burning camphor emits a nice perfume. When we take up serving society, we burn our desires and spread the perfume of love and happiness to all.

Arati Celebration
Arati is routinely performed at Continue Reading »

Are there still Living Enlightened Masters at Arunachala?
It was a couple of years back on my trip to Tiruvannamalai that I was wondering if there are still living enlightened masters at Arunachala today. I was told to look for Sri Siva Sakthi Ammaiyar. One morning I went to her ashram for darshan. The ashram on the ground level is a big hall with a simple chair for Ammaiyar with the only paraphernalia of an animal print kerchief indicating that she is a Siva devotee. The hall has lots of floor space for devotees. I noticed a lot of yoga blocks, mats, etc. All kinds of support for Westerners to Continue Reading »
